Campaign against Fracking

April: GEAI hosted John Armstrong, Renee Vogelsang and Julia Walsh from FrackAction New York, successful New York campaigners who were at the forefront of the ban on fracking in New York State

September: GEAI Director Aedin McLoughlin was a member of an international delegation to Washington, Pennsylvania and New York State as part of the 2015 Fracking Tour organised by the Heinrich Boell Foundation, Germany.  The delegation met decision makers from each state at the highest level, as well as visits to communities impacted by fracking.

Stop the study campaign

September: GEAI discovered that the Research Study on fracking research, administrated by EPA, is being carried out by CDM Smith (U.S. pro-fracking consultancy providing services to the oil and gas industry) and Amec Foster Wheeler (oil/gas industry consultant whose clients include BP, Shell, BR Petrobras, GDF Suez and ExxonMobil).  Following this discovery, GEAI together with Fracking Free Network organised the successful STOP the STUDY Campaign.

October: Highly successful public Stop the Study meeting in Glenfarne, attended by over 200 people.

November:  Stop the Study Rally outside Leinster House, followed by presentation to politicians in the AV Room, Leinster House, standing room only!  Also, GEAI took part in People’s Climate March.

December: Summary of evidence of non-independent research distributed to politicians.  Joint Oireachtas Committee meeting with EPA attended by GEAI.

 Working with young people

March: GEAI carried out an Energy Audit of Manorhamilton , assisted with students from St Clare’s Comprehensive School.

Awarded accreditation as Erasmus+ Coordinating and Hosting organisation for four European volunteers.

August: End of EVS year for Santi, Olga and Irina.

August: Decision to sponsor Olga to stay with us as a volunteer for a second year.

September: Three new EVS volunteers hosted – Alice, Cedric and Irakli.

Decision made to apply for a fourth volunteer to join us in January 2016.

Executive members of GEAI attended Erasmus+ Training programmes.

Hosted a local volunteer preparing for her Gaisce certificate.

Organised Junior Discos in Ballinaglera Hall for local 10-14 year olds

Action on Renewable Energies

Good Energies researched the best alternative energy sources for Ireland (wind, biomass, hydro etc).  Renewable Energies section updated on website

EVS Volunteer Irina produced wind energy position paper

June: Major day-long international Conference – “Renewable Energies – Prosperous Communities”–  successfully organised to raise awareness of Renewable Energy sources and uses in Manorhamilton.
